Telecommunications Specialist and Office Support Staff
Basic Functions
Responsible for operations of communication equipment, to receive and handle incoming calls for complaints, police emergency and administrative requests, and dispatches law enforcement units. Will record all on-duty officers activities and monitor activity of units and will operate teletype and computer terminal to obtain and transmit information. Monitor surveillance cameras in Central Monitoring Center. Must deal courteously, tactfully, and effectively with the public during stressful emergency situations. Relays all information to supervisors in emergency cases, Maintains records on S.C. Uniform Traffic Citations, SPA Parking Tickets and Decals, acts as a receptionist for the police department. Must be able to pass an extensive criminal background check.
Education and Training
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to type at least 35wpm.
Work Experience
Must be knowledgeable of and be able to operate a telephone switchboard.
Desirable Qualifications
- Candidate should be multi-task oriented and be able to deal with stressful situations effectively.
- Must be punctual and dependable.
- Must speak clearly.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts including holidays and weekends.
Personal Qualifications:
- Should be neat in appearance, have good communication skills, good character, and the ability to deal fairly and effectively with others.
- Must hold and maintain a valid and current South Carolina Driver’s License. Also, should have no felony against him/her as recorded by FBI or SLED.
Extraordinary Conditions
Certification Required:
Must be certified in the use of NCIC, SLED, and FBI information systems and must maintain certification or must successfully complete NCIC certification within the first six months of hire.
