Each year, the S.C. International Trade Conference presents scholarships to students in memory of Mrs. Margaret A. Patrick, who was instrumental in the development of the Trade Conference and its outstanding support of transportation education, and in memory of W. Don Welch, the former executive director of the South Carolina State Ports Authority. In 2008, seven scholarships were
awarded, ranging from $1,500 to $2,500.

Manufacturing, Engineering & Science” for a graduating high school senior in the Tri-County area.
The mission of the Lowcountry Manufacturers Council is to enhance the competitiveness, promote
development and impact the manufacturing sector of the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

Alexandra Gamez is a rising senior at the University of South Carolina’s Moore School of Business with a 3.8 GPA. She is a double major in Global Supply Chain & Operations Management and Accounting. Alexandra is an officer in the International Business Fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi and last summer she interned with Cummins Turbo Technologies in Ladson. Currently, she is interning with Cummins corporate in Columbus, Indiana.

David Munson is a rising senior at the College of Charleston. He was the first student at the College to earn the NASBITE Global Business Professional certification. David was selected to the prestigious Schottland Scholars Program for the upcoming year and received the Best Student Consultant Award for the Global Trade HelpDesk. He also studied abroad in Dubai and presented at an Export 101 Seminar for the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Jon Green is a rising senior, earning a 3.7 GPA at the College of Charleston’s Honors College. He is working toward a degree in International Business with a minor in Spanish. Jon worked as a Global Trade Initiatives intern at the College of Charleston and studied abroad for six months in Mexico and Argentina. Jon volunteered at a reading foundation in Buenos Aires and tutored his peers in language lab at the College.

David Edward Parker is the winner of this year’s inaugural Scholarship in Manufacturing, Engineering and Science. After graduation from Hanahan High School, he enrolls at Clemson University this fall to study mechanical engineering. In high school, David was president of the Hanahan Engineering Club, the Hanahan Robotics Team and the Science Club. He was also captain of the Academic Team and was the Engineering Academy Valedictorian. David earned a 3.83 GPA and was ranked 4th out of 206 students in is class.
